political fallout for German nuclear policy?
The effects of Japan’s nuclear crisis are being felt as far away as Germany, at least politically. Against a backdrop of sympathy for the plight of the Japanese, discussions about the safety of nuclear power are raging hot and heavy. The governing CDU/FDP coalition has now put a hold on plans to extend the lifespan of Germanys’ reactors. Particularly aging reactors like the one in Neckarwestheim in the state of Baden-Württemberg will probably shut down earlier than previously expected.
