LIE: Wife-Beating is a Major cause of Birth Defects

A bogus factoid was presented by TIME magazine in January 1993. It stated that wife-beating was a major cause of birth defects.

TRUTH:

a Quote from: Fathers for Life

In January 1993, Time magazine reported that a March of Dimes study had identified wife battering as a major cause of birth defects. The idea that some men batter even their pregnant spouses is a particularly grotesque one and is commonly included in violence statistics, but this particular allegation took things even farther than ever before. Over the next few months, these same "study" results made their way into various newspaper articles. However, when the March of Dimes was contacted by Sommers, it said no such document existed.

I suggest reading the whole article at Fathers for Life. It is an interesting read.

BRAINWASHING:

This factoid is extremely callous towards men. It claims that men will continue to beat their women - even if those women are pregnant. This convinces women (and men), that men are extremely brutal towards women - regardless of the status of those women. This effectively install fear and hatred of men in women (and men).
